January/February 2008

From The Forest began as a learning venue, featuring forays and workshops to help those interested in learning the identification and medicinal properties of plants growing throughout the Rocky Mountain range. It was a simple goal, prompted in the late 70's as a precaution against any FDA action which may have resulted in the removal of herbal products from our grasp. A lot has changed since then.

This Newsletter defines From The Forest, from its educational programs, to the developement of its product line. The most important asset of the business are the apprentices. Read about how the apprentice program began, its goals and accomplishments. A couple of the apprentices are featured in this edition.

Also featured in the Newsletter is Making Healing Winter Ales, with simple recipes and techniques that you can employ in your own kitchen using such common herbs as Horehound, Fir, Lodgepole, Chokecherry Bark and Willow. These are wheat-free, hop-free ales.
