Getting Started with Bees: Begin at the Beginning with Karla Bingham, Saturday, September 23rd, 1:00pm-2:30pm Mountain Standard Time

This class is designed for new beekeepers, as well as those who are thinking about keeping bees. Professional beekeeper Karla Bingham will go over the equipment, clothing, and commitment needed for beekeeping, as well as getting stung, hive placement, and expected costs. She will also discuss the structure of a hive, the roles of the hive's various bees, nutrition for bees, and what a healthy hive should look like in different seasons. A 12-month check-list booklet will be provided.

About the Instructor: Karla Bingham is a co-owner of Slide Ridge Honey, a successful family honey farm located in Mendon, Utah. Karla is visiting from the lovely Cache Valley to share her extensive knowledge of honey bee health. Slide Ridge beekeepers practice sustainable, low-impact, and all-natural beekeeping methods, working with the life cycle of the bees. They raise their own queens and use only all-natural plant-based nutrients and essential oils to keep their bees healthy and hives strong. At Slide Ridge, success is measured by the activity of the hives. Strong hives and active bees not only produce good honey but they add strength and beauty to the mountain flowers that sustain them.
